The global nutrition and health industry is still growing rapidly at a compound annual growth rate of 7%, but the product categories have changed, and functional foods are in a stage of rapid growth; Food supplements have entered a low growth period of New Normal. “Functional foods refer to traditional foods that contain not only traditional nutrients, but also some health promoting ingredients. Dietary supplements are products primarily made from vitamins, minerals, and extracts with relatively clear structure-activity relationships. The conference pointed out that synthetic biology is an emerging technology in the field of plant extracts in recent years. Although its application in the plant extract industry has not yet formed a scale, it has great potential for future development. At present, its application in products such as resveratrol, 5-hydroxytryptophan, and artemisinin has been slightly effective. It is recommended that enterprises pay attention to the development direction of the industry, strengthen cooperation with scientific research universities, enhance industrial technological strength, and strive to improve the international competitiveness of China's plant extract products.
